England crash out 4 - 1 to Germany in World Cup

Thomas Mueller scored twice in three minutes to send England to a crushing defeat in the last 16 of the World Cup finals.

But it could have been so different if Frank Lampard's "goal" had been allowed when the score was 2 - 1 in the first half.

York fans watched in disbelief in pubs and at homes across the city as Germany made the most of their narrow escape and added two more goals in the second half.

Matthew Upson was the sole England scorer on an afternoon that saw shops closing early in York city centre because customers were elsewhere and preoccupied with football rather than shopping.

Well and truly outclassed - forget technology, would have made no difference to the result. Well done Germany, a nation that reinvests the games wealth back into the grass roots. It shows.

40-odd years ago England footballers were motivated by national pride. Now they are just overpaid, pampered 'celebrities' corrupted by money and corporate greed. They don't care if they lose. Why should they? Financially speaking, they, and their (non-English) moron of a manager can now live out their lives in obscene luxury, effectively waving 2 fingers at the fans who spent a fortune going there to see them play. I'm glad Germany won. They deserved to... Professional football isn't a sport anymore - it's a corporate monster fuelled by money, greed, boardroom, backhanders and & corruption. I pity the gullible mugs who financially support them. Pathetic...

Especially the muppet in a VW flying one, if he doesn't someone's bound to key it tonight on the way home from the pub. Let's face it these motorists and those hanging flags from their house windows need therapy to recover from having their dillusions shattered that England can field a football team without foreign talent.

Oi - I had a flag (tastefully) fluttering from my wall. We and the kids wanted to join in the festival of football - what is wrong with that? Its part of life, like xmas - a pageant to join in with. What do you two miserable beggars do, Pablo and Kind Edward, sit at home grumbling while everyone else has fun! And no - I had no illusions about England - none at all!

I only feel sorry for the fans who paid thousands to get there. England have been appalling the whole tournament and an on form Germany deserved the win.

Here's an idea: Every time England lose the FA shouldn't pay them.

That guy on Melrosegate who had the most lavishly decorated house in York must feel like a right tool!

England were rubbish but one person i really hate is Septic Bladder I mean Sepp Blatter, he is too stubborn and to realise that goal line technology is needed, having said that England were poor and Germany deserved their win and im sure they will give Argentina a good game.

Deathwatch I fully agree with you.
Just one day after we celebrate, British pride, passion, bravery, unstinting comradeship, with our past and present Servoce men and Women.
The England team displayed neither attribute. I guess they will forget very quickly with their £100k per week, I never ever will. Every name of this team of our elite will be etched in my memory. Absolute disgrace from the moment the kicked the first ball in the tournament, and not just Yesterdays game.
