YORK winner Stephen Maguire believes the Coral UK Championship is now only fourth in the list of top snooker tournaments.

The Scotsman, who demolished David Gray 10-1 to take the title at the York Barbican ten years ago, said he no longer looked forward to the tournament "as much as I used to" and placed China's International Championship above it a roll call of the game's most prestigious competitions.

Maguire was a harsh critic of changes to the UK's structure 12 months ago, arguing the event was in danger of being "ruined".

And, as he prepared to face Chinese player Yu Delu on Sunday afternoon, he said: "It is a different tournament. It is not as good as the way it was. It used to be best-of-17s and it was a better tournament. But we don't get a say in it, we just have to play on and it is still the UK Championship."

Maguire added: "It's probably fourth in the list now of the top tournaments we have got on the tour.

"It's the same for everyone. Even though I was lucky to win it, even for the boys who haven't won it before, it has definitely lost its appeal. It used to be second to the World - bar none.

"It's definitely not there anymore."

And what was above it? "The Masters, the International and the World."
