BEWILDERED Judd Trump said his 6-4 Barbican exit to Mark Allen in the williamhill.com UK Championship was like playing in a “club match”.

York’s champion two years ago admitted to being “really frustrated” after the Northern Irishman gained revenge for his defeat in that final helped by two huge flukes in the decisive frame.

Trump, who afterwards claimed he was “clearly the better player”, led 3-1 and 4-2 but could not shake off a misfiring Allen, who would admit he agreed with his opponent’s sentiments about the game.

In the tenth frame, Trump could only sit shocked in his chair as Allen missed a long pot by acres only to see it fluke into the yellow pocket.

He made the most of the opportunity with a break of 54, and Trump was again cursing his luck when another missed pot from Allen saw the white settle close to the blue and forced him into a miss that cost him the match.

Now the Bristolian – who added he had played “some of the best snooker in the whole tournament” – is out as Allen meets Ricky Walden in today’s quarter-final.

“I am really frustrated,” Trump said. “Normally the better player gets the luck but it has happened more than once this year against him.

“I just got dragged down. Neither of us were playing well but I was playing the better snooker. It’s disappointing. It’s very frustrating.

“From what I played so far, I played the best snooker of the whole tournament. I started all right. He kept missing and it turned into a bit of a club game to be honest.

“I felt if I played someone that was playing well it would have been a good game. Mark was awful and I still managed to lose.”

Allen replied: “I don’t know how I won it. I showed the qualities that I never give up and Judd let me off. He missed a lot of balls he never would have missed.

“I am pretty good under pressure normally but, from the start of the match, I felt edgy. I didn’t control it well in the first six frames.

“I probably just dragged Judd down. I was so bad. It’s hard to play against someone who is not going to make a 20 break. I just didn’t feel I was going to pot anything.”
