Whyte took the first frame, which lasted 75 minutes. Stroughair levelled with a comfortable win in the second frame, but Whyte went 2-1 up with a 28 break in the third.

There were surprising results in the semi-finals in the Kutters and Shannons Team Cup KO.

Bootham A' lost the first four frames against Fulford A' on their way to a 5-2 loss.

Neil Wood made a 91 break, the highest of the season, to set Heworth on their way against Bootham B'.

But Bootham went 3-1 ahead through George Long, Ray Stamp and Lionel Barnes. Steve Burdett stopped the losing sequence, but Paul Mahoney and Chris Dawson made it 5-2 to Bootham B'.

The final will be at Acomb club on Wednesday, April 2, starting after the annual presentations which get underway at 7.30pm.
