Malton and Norton seize solace from loss
9:58am Monday 24th September 2012 in Rugby Union
Beverley were deserved 26-14 winners in a mighty North One East derby, but Malton and Norton RUFC’s home-grown youngsters came away with great credit.
Charlie Ramsay neatly side-stepped his opposite number and touched down. Ian Cooke’s kick rebounded away off a post.
As Beverley raids were repelled, a scrum infringement allowed Cooke to extend the lead.
Beverley responded immediately for a converted try.
Two home players were then sin-binned, Cooke kicking Malton ahead but they could not break the home defence.
When Ali Coe was sin-binned Beverley capitalised and led by three points at the interval.
Great Malt defence repelled Beverley and Cooke sent over a penalty to trim the deficit to one point. But in the dying exchanges Beverley took command to win.
