York RI RUFC start campaign with 77-0 defeat

UNDERSTRENGTH York RI RUFC opened their Yorkshire Three campaign with a 77-0 defeat at home to Baildon.

The West Yorkshire visitors arrived at New Lane full of confidence on the back of a Twickenham final victory and a series of summer sevens games.

That showed immediately and indiscipline cost RI three penalties for Baildon to lead 9-0 after 15 minutes. The slick outfit added three converted tries to go in at the interval 38-0 up.

The second half went much the same way, Baildon adding a further six tries to finish 77-0 victors.

The highlight for the hosts was prop Darren Lonsdale’s drive for the line, but he failed to touch down.
