Yorkshire v Derbyshire - lunch day 1

It is honours even at lunch on day one of the battle between Division Two’s leading duo at Chesterfield.

After Yorkshire skipper Phil Jaques won the toss and elected to bat first, leaders Derbyshire have taken three wickets on a pitch offering help for the bowlers in the form of seam movement and some invariable bounce.

The White Rose county have advanced to 114-3 from 28 overs at lunch, which was taken one over early due to rain, with Jaques and Gary Ballance unbeaten on 28 and 19 respectively.

In the battle for County Championship promotion, second-placed Yorkshire have lost Joe Root caught in the gully off Tim Groenewald, who then had helpless Adam Lyth caught behind with a ball that reared off a good length and caught the shoulder of the bat.

Tony Palladino then bowled Jonny Bairstow off the inside edge for 27. Jaques has looked particularly strong through the covers.
