Selby RUFC nose dive ahead of Yorkshire Shield quarter-final

8:57am Monday 2nd April 2012

Selby RUFC were beaten 25-17 at Yarnbury in Yorkshire Two in a disappointing dress rehearsal for next weekend’s Yorkshire Shield quarter-final.

The Swans should have clinched the league points in West Yorkshire, but paid the price for Josh Greenfield’s sin-binning just before the break and poor discipline in the closing stages.

Number eight Ben Booth crashed over for Selby’s opening try on five minutes and Josh Cruise converted.

But Greenfield’s yellow card was followed by a Yarnbury try on the stroke of half-time and the hosts also scored on 47 and 51 minutes.

Cruise kicked a penalty and then converted an Ollie Saunders touch down, but a penalty and a breakaway try saw Yarnbury snatch the win.
