York RUFC beat bottom side Dinnington

YORK RUFC cemented their top five position in Yorkshire One with a ruthless 37-8 demolition of bottom side Dinnington at Clifton Park.

The home side forged into the lead in the second minute with a try by flanker Rich Roberts.

Six minutes later, winger Billy Cakaunitabua followed him over the try line and Jon Dawes converted for an early 12-0 advantage.

Although the visitors responded with a penalty on 17 minutes, fly-half Dawes added one of his own on 20 minutes and then winger Rich Downey crossed for a try.

A touch down from York centre Sam Arkle made it 25-3 at the interval.

Arkle crossed again six minutes into the second half and Dawes converted.

Dinnington finally crossed the whitewash with three minutes remaining, but York number eight Joe Maud had the last word with a try from a five-metre scrum.

Pocklington maintained their promotion challenge with a 34-19 bonus-point victory over Heath at Percy Road.

Pocklington opened the scoring with a Nick Bennett penalty, but fell behind as Heath scored a converted try in the left corner.

The hosts hit back strongly and fly-half Joe Holbrough dived over the line, with Bennett converting.

Ben Rees’ disguised pass then sent flanker Jack Holbrough striding to the posts for Bennett to convert.

Pocklington had chances to be out of sight before the break, but were unable to take their opportunities.

After a spell of Heath pressure at the start of the second half, Pock launched a series of attacks that ended with Bennett kicking a penalty and then converting a second try by Jack Holbrough, who scored from a lineout catch and drive.

Heath grabbed a late converted try from a charged down kick, but wing Billy Hardy blocked a Heath clearance and ran in his side’s fourth try and Bennett converted.
