ROB WEBBER has been called up for the full England rugby union squad to tour Australia next month.
The former Pocklington schoolboy, 23, has been included in Martin Johnson’s tour party of 44 which will play a warm-up game against the Barbarians at Twickenham.
Then it is Down Under where England play two Tests against the Wallabies and two midweek matches – one in Australia and one in New Zealand.
Webber, who has won six caps for England Saxons, is a regular at London Wasps – where he has made more Premiership appearances than any other player for the past two seasons. The hooker has also captained the side in recent weeks.
Webber started as a mini rugby player at Pocklington. He still makes regular trips back to East Yorkshire and his mother, Gwen, still cooks the food every Sunday for Pock’s mini and junior teams.
Tim Slater, Pocklington RUFC president, said: “This is brilliant news. Everyone at Pock knows Rob as a great player and a great guy, and we are all delighted he has made the England squad. He really deserves to represent his country and we are so proud of him. It’s a great honour, not just for him, but for his club, his school and his county.”
