Malton & Norton RUFC ended their Yorkshire One campaign on a high with a 16-12 victory at Scarborough.
The Ryedale side started in superb fashion with a try by prop forward Nick Salisbury and Teei Piawi added the conversion.
Malton camped in the home half for long periods, but were unable to break through, although Piawi added a long-range penalty for a 10-0 lead. Piawi added another penalty on the stroke of half-time to secure a commanding interval score.
Four minutes into the second period, Piawi tagged on a third penalty from in front of the posts.
However, the hosts started a fight back on the hour mark with a try and then Malton’s Carl Muscroft was sent to the sin-bin.
The visitors pressed but lost the ball with the line in sight and Scarborough responded with a try. The conversion cut the lead to only four points with ten minutes to go. The Gannock side managed to hang on for a victory which rounded an amazing second half to the season, which saw them stave off the threat of relegation.
Pocklington suffered a 25-8 defeat by champions North Ribblesdale in their final Percy Road game of the Yorkshire Two season.
The visitors forged ahead with two penalties and a try, while Nick Bennett kicked a penalty in reply to make it 11-3 at the break.
Ribblesdale added a converted try on the hour but, despite losing a player to the sin-bin, Pock hit back with a try by Marcus Britland. The visitors put the stamp on their victory with a well-taken converted try.
Promoted York RI were 46-34 winners at Adwick Le Street in Yorkshire Four.
