THINGS are looking up for in-form York RUFC.
Back-to-back wins over Selby and Bradford Salem have propelled the Clifton Park club into the thick of the action near the summit of Yorkshire One.
Club stalwart Andy Kay believes the club are hitting their best form heading into the final five games of the season, starting at Bridlington tomorrow.
York are currently fifth and Kay, who is missing from York’s line-up tomorrow, believes they are capable of gatecrashing the division’s top three.
“We go to Bridlington tomorrow and then we are at Keighley after that, but our other three games are against sides in the mix at the bottom,” he said.
“I’m not saying they are going to be easy games because these teams are fighting to stay in the division, but we could still end up with third place if it all goes to plan.
“When you consider the number of serious injuries we have had, to finish in the top five would be good, but the top three would be a great achievement.”
York are also without promising back Richard Downey, who is spending the next few months travelling, but they have been bolstered by the addition of Mike Cawthorn, who made an impressive debut against Bradford Salem.
Dead and buried at Christmas, Malton and Norton can continue their sensational Yorkshire One revival when they host Heath at the Gannock.
Last weekend’s 17-13 win at Sheffield was their fifth in a row and a result which lifted them four points clear of the drop zone. In that form, they will be confident of a further rise up the standings.
Selby got back to winning ways with a 26-14 win against Scarborough. The Sandhill Laners travel to sixth placed Keighley enjoying a six-point gap over second bottom Skipton.
