MALTON & Norton RUFC look to have dodged a bullet tomorrow in North One East as Tonga and New Zealand rugby league international Fuifui Moimoi will not line up with opponents Bradford & Bingley.

Prop forward Moimoi is looking for a new professional league club after his controversial departure from Betfred Championship side Toronto Wolfpack and joined up with Bradford & Bingley because he has two cousins at the club. However, the 38-year-old will not feature tomorrow because it is too far to travel from his home in Leigh.

Not that it would have mattered anyway to Malt, whose spokesman Bill Laidler says his team were fairly relaxed about the prospect of lining up against the NRL Parramatta Eels cult legend, who has been linked with Bradford Bulls and Championship Swinton Lions.

Laidler said: “They weren’t really bothered – it’s a different game altogether from league. There are plenty of other former league players in the division as well.”

As if to illustrate his point, Bradford & Bingley’s secretary Nick Patterson said the side have another league player who is likely to feature at the Gannock in former York City Knights star Dennis Tuffour.

Patterson drew parallels between Tuffour and Moimoi’s demeanour on and off the pitch, saying of the latter: “He looks like he’s going to score every time he gets on the ball, and he seems to have galvanised the team. Everybody likes him. Unfortunately, he won't be terrorising Malton & Norton on Saturday.

“They’re both really nice lads in the changing room but absolute beasts on the pitch.”

Malton & Norton, meanwhile, should be able to field a strong side of their own, with their squad remaining intact after Saturday’s crucial 31-17 win over fellow relegation candidates Dinnington.

Laidler said: “We’re right back up to full strength – it’s certainly a good headache to have. Captain Sam Triffitt might be back this week after being away for the last game.

“We’ve got to win again this weekend. All of the bottom eight teams are in danger.”

North Premier’s bottom side Pocklington did not have a game last week. Tomorrow, they host table-toppers Preston Grasshoppers, who were also without a fixture.

Preston have won 17 of their 19 games this season, with their only defeat coming three weeks ago at 11th-placed Kirkby Lonsdale. They won their most recent fixture 31-14 at home to mid-table Rossendale.

Yorkshire One leaders York had their Yorkshire RFU Intermediate Cup game at Gateshead last week rescheduled for tomorrow due to the waterlogged conditions. The fixture at Moortown due to be played tomorrow will be rescheduled.

Despite missing out on league action at the weekend, the Clifton Park outfit are still eight points ahead of their nearest league rivals, Scarborough.

At the other end of the table, Selby face a basement battle at home to 12th-placed North Ribblesdale. Both are in danger as it stands, with Selby only three points ahead of bottom side Wheatley Hills, and North Ribblesdale only six above Selby.

York RI were shunted down to third place in Yorkshire Four Shield as they did not play last week, while Bramley Phoenix’s win at home to Thirsk moved them into top spot.

RI have the chance to end the leaders’ winning run tomorrow, however, when the two go head-to-head at New Lane.
