NESTLE Rowntree made it 13 wins from 13 in Yorkshire Merit League North One with a 29-7 success at third-placed Ossett 2nds, although the hosts proved tougher opponents than the scoreline suggests.

Table-topping Trees got off to a flier as wing-forward and man-of-the-match Fred Hudson took only 20 seconds from the hosts' kick-off to run unopposed under the posts and set up a simple conversion for Jack Daniels.

The hosts responded strongly but, with Trees playing well on the break, a good move saw Jack Gabbatiss take the ball out wide and, after selling two dummies, sidestep the Ossett centre and power over from 30 yards.

Gabbatiss touched down again from another incursion into the hosts' half, this time from three yards.

The York side started the second half in the ascendancy as they played with the slight slope, and scored the bonus-point try quarter of an hour after the restart when captain Greg Neill crashed over.

Ossett once again came back strongly and managed to breach the visitors' defence with a converted try, but they began conceding too many fouls as they pressed for another score.

As Trees cleared their lines, Owen Harrison was eventually set up for a score straight off the training ground, which was converted by Daniels.
