NESTLE Rowntree RUFC remained unbeaten in the Yorkshire Merit League northern division after a 24-8 victory at home to Ossett 2nds.

It was a shaky win on the whole but it still gained revenge for defeat to Ossett in the play-offs last season.

Trees had the upper hand from the kick-off and a slick passing move saw left-wing Mark Thomas race over, with Jack Daniels converting from out wide.

Another good move saw right-wing Chris Cook score.

However, the home side then started to give too many penalties away and Ossett came back into the game with an unconverted try followed 10 minutes later by a penalty, which also resulted in a yellow card.

Nestle's defence held out during that 10-minute period of being a man down and again when back up to 15.

Then, midway through the second half, nerves were settled when second-row Chris Corr smashed through to score under the posts, Jack Daniels converting.

Trees were now seeing more of the ball and some prolonged pressure saw Jack Gabbatiss crash over to seal victory and bag a bonus point too.
