YORK maintained their 100 per cent Yorkshire One record with a seventh straight victory at Hullensians.

Sam Forbes claimed a hat-trick of tries in a 29-5 triumph, with Toby Atkin also crossing the line.

Despite very difficult kicking conditions, Jon Dawes added a penalty and three conversions for a youthful visiting side, who included 11 home-grown products from the thriving Clifton Park junior section with five players aged between 18 and 21.

With the wind at their backs, York forged ahead thanks to a Dawes penalty 35 metres in front of the posts.

Chris Fox’s powerful runs, meanwhile, were causing the Hullensians’ defence problems and, from an attempt to relieve the pressure, a kick was gathered by George Davies who ran it straight back at pace.

The ball was then spread wide by the York backs for Forbes to score in the corner.

On this occasion, the conversion was missed.

Next, at the half-hour mark, the away team were awarded a penalty and a quick tap-and-go by Atkin allowed him to dance through the Hull defence and score under the posts, with Dawes adding the extra points.

It was then 22-0 at the break when, from 30 metres out, Liam Hessay and Dawes combined to release Forbes, who went over in the corner for a try that was converted from the touchline.

Immediately from the restart, Will Atkin broke 40 metres upfield before off-loading to Fox and, after the ball was passed through the backs, Forbes went over for his team’s bonus-point try with Dawes converting from the touch-line against the strong wind.

Just before the hour, 18-year olds Tom Williams and Lewis Jackson were introduced and showed they were more than capable of competing at the level.

Fox and Chris Peace’s strong running also kept York in the home half.

But Hullensians persevered and, from a scrum, Jason Conroy broke down the blind side to score a try that was deserved on their second-half showing.

The conversion was missed, though, bringing an end to the scoring.

For York, Fox and Dawes were both outstanding, while the emergence of Colts graduates was another big positive for the table-topping visitors.

Winless Selby, meanwhile, lost 23-15 at home to Beverley.
