YORK manager Ian Thomson has insisted the team’s “special” win against fellow high-fliers Scarborough will not lead to any complacency at Middlesbrough.

Having overcome the coastal club 56-7 last weekend, Thomson also admitted that it was particularly welcome to defeat their North Yorkshire rivals by such a scoreline, after being on the receiving end of similar thrashings to their opponents in the past.

The free-scoring Yorkshire One rugby-union leaders are wary of both Boro’s strength at home, and their good half-back combination.

Tomorrow’s hosts have won their last two games, including a solid 20-3 victory over North Ribblesdale.

In preparation, the Clifton Park side have been working on pattern and shape in training, something which worked well against Scarborough.

On that victory, Thomson said: “We never expected to win by such a big margin.

“The result didn’t reflect the whole of the game, as it was tight for 60 minutes. We were always in front, but in the last 20, our fitness and confidence kicked in, plus the fact that we were at home.

“Everything just clicked and it was special to put on a big score against Scarborough, since they’ve done the same to us in the past.”

Josh Parker and Toby Atkin will be rested tomorrow after picking up knocks, but Joe Maud starts, Chris Peace moves from centre to scrum half, and Simon Webster and Sam Potrykus come onto the bench.

In the same league, Selby will be looking to end the unfortunate run they have found themselves on, starting the season with four losses out of four.

This weekend will be a stern test, however, as second-placed opponents Old Brodleians hold the exact opposite record to their hosts.

Pocklington are still in the hunt for their first win in the North Premier.

They next travel to sixth-placed Kirkby Lonsdale, who started strongly with wins against Birkenhead Park and Kendal, but have since narrowly lost two away games, at Ilkley and Rossendale.

Pock’s last outing, a 61-26 home loss against Kendal, seemed to typify all that is good and bad about the Percy Road side.

They do not lack talent going forward, but the visitors showed them a thing or two about ruthlessness, while they will also be looking to stem the flow of points that they are conceding – 83 in the last two games.

Malton & Norton are sat mid-table and looking up in North One East, after two wins and two losses.

Their last two run-outs, both to West Yorkshire sides, finished with them beating Huddersfield YMCA 28-22, before losing 27-17 at third-placed West Leeds.

They welcome Percy Park tomorrow in what could transpire to be an eight-pointer – their opponents sitting only one place and one point higher than them – and may take heart from the weekend’s visitors having been trounced 42-10 at home by Huddersfield last week.

York RI will be looking to make home advantage count against Mosborough in this weekend’s Yorkshire Four clash to bounce back from their cup disappointment last week.

Their visitors sit in second place with a 100 per cent record from their two games, defeating Hessle 17-12 in their last outing, while RI lost 23-17 at Halifax in the Yorkshire Vase, as injury forced them to play with only 14 men for 60 minutes.
