IT was party time at Percy Road last weekend as Pocklington RUFC sealed the North One East title with a convincing 50-10 victory over Huddersfield YMCA.

A big crowd bathed in the sunshine and enjoyed a high scoring game before celebrating in style afterwards.

Pocklington, who had won their previous 13 games, flew out of the blocks with tries inside the first ten minutes from No 8 Jack Holbrough and wing Josh Britton. Matt Procter also added a conversion.

But Pocklington then lost their way and went into the interval leading only 12-5 with three players having received yellow cards .

Pocklington were still down to 13 men when they started the second half but showed their intent as a six-man scrum pushed the Huddersfield eight off the ball for Procter to kick a straightforward penalty.

Huddersfield made the most of the numerical advantage and scored a try out wide to make it 15-10.

But once Pocklington returned to full strength there was only one side in the contest - and they scored five converted tries in the last 30 minutes to pull clear.

Centres Joe Holbrough and James Flint carved open the visitors' midfield, back rows Jack Holbrough, Johnny Wood and Karl Durkin pounded Huddersfield in the loose, and the home pack continued to dominate the set piece.

Skipper and scrum half Ben Rees helped himself to two tries, both Holbrough brothers plunged over from close range, and Wood sprinted over with the last play of the game. Procter's final conversion brought up the half century.

It was a particularly memorable occasion for a dozen of the Pocklington squad who were also in the side that won the Yorkshire Two and Yorkshire One titles in 2011 and 2012.

Three of Saturday's side - Ben Rees, John-Paul Kelly and Dave Birch - also played for Pocklington when they won Yorkshire Three in 2004 and were celebrating a fourth championship success with the club.
