TITLE winners York RI Ladies ended the season in style - inflicting yet another heavy defeat on the opposition.

Victories in 10 out of their previous 11 games had already guaranteed that RI finished top of Women’s NC North 2 East.

But they underlined just why they have have been so successful this season with a 31-5 victory over West Park Leeds Ladies II in their final game to maintain an unbeaten record.

“We are all proud of our achievements this season and look forward to building on these over the summer,” said captain Shannon Little. “Despite a number of injury issues, we started strong and maintained this form throughout the season, proving what a good team ethic the York RI Ladies possess.”

The final game was played ‘12 against 12’ since West Park had a shortage of players.

Scrum-half Katie Rushton, playing her 50th game for the club, set up the opening try for tight head prop Kirsty Parr.

West Park responded immediately and scored an unconverted try.

RI picked up the pace with hooker Kat Reed and captain Little making great runs to gain territory in West Park’s 22.

Second Row Ashleigh Lambert stormed over the line for her first try, converted by Parr.

The forwards worked hard to secure the ball and Little dummied the defence before cutting back inside for a try, converted by Parr.

Full back Rachel Demoraes made a number of try-saving tackles and replacement centre Vicki Woodgate made an instant impact with a try, converted by Parr.

The back line continued to make great breaks thanks to good composure by fly half Gemma Webster With pace on their side, RI shipped the ball out to new winger Megan Boocock who scored her first try for the club to seal the victory.
