POCKLINGTON wrapped up their 11th league win on the trot with an 18-3 home success over Morpeth.

It was a comfortable victory but could and should have been more decisive. Pocklington dominated the second half but it remained scoreless as they passed up half a dozen clear chances.

Yet though Pocklington's attacking game was not on song, once again their defence was faultless and this was their sixth successive game in which they have not conceded a try.

Pock gradually built an 18-point lead in the first half with well-taken tries from skipper and scrum half Ben Rees, who looped round behind his threequarters to plunge over in the corner, and flanker Johnny Wood, who stormed over from 30 yards off the side of a ruck.

Teenage fly half Matt Procter kicked a conversion and two penalties, hitting the post with the other conversion from the touchline.

Morpeth had their moments but there was no way through or round Pocklington's determined defence and they settled for a snap drop goal after a spell of pressure.

Pocklington ended the first half with a sweeping attack, only to drop the ball with the line begging, and it was a similar story of missed opportunities in the second period.

The were stopped a yard short on three occasions, dropped the ball over the line, gave the last pass to an opponent instead of a team-mate and failed to make the most of a couple of close-range lineouts.

Then when Morpeth's beleaguered defence saw two men sent to the bin, Pock's pack was penalised as they went for a pushover try.

Nevertheless, the result was never in doubt and they produced some impressive approach work, with irrepressible full back Jack Fletcher to the fore, while the tackling was inevitably rock solid, ensuring that Morpeth never really looked like scoring.

Pocklington might have missed out on a try bonus but as nearest rivals West Hartlepool lost at home to Alnwick, the North One East title is now Pock's to lose.
