York RI came up against a 'beefed up' Hessle side and lost 22-8 in Yorkshire Four.
The big forwards of Hessle battered the RI defence who tackled relentlessly.
Hessle took advantage of a knock on under the posts to score from the scrum and lead 7-0.
Man of the match Francky Rossi made a super break to slip the ball to Chris Jones who scored in the corner 7-5 .
Baptiste Brui landed a penalty for RI five minutes later to reduce the deficit to just one point
Hessle replied with a try and penalty of their own to lead 15-8.
There was controversy as the referee over-ruled the linesman when a Hessle kick bounced on the whitewash and was ruled to have bounced inside the line.
This gave the home side a 50 metre advantage from which they duly added a converted try on the final whistle and denied RI a bonus point .
Despite the disappointment, RI could still hold their heads high after going so close against such a powerful side.
