POCKLINGTON'S title credentials will be examined by third place rivals Alnwick tomorrow in North One East.

Currently three points clear at the top of the table with six games to go, Pocklington are seeking a tenth consecutive victory and withdrew from the Yorkshire Cup last week to concentrate on winning the league.

Alnwick have lost only three times since the last meeting between the clubs in early November which ended in a narrow 22-20 victory to Pocklington thanks to a last gasp penalty.

They remain outsiders to win the league - eleven points adrift of leaders Pocklington in third spot - but a defeat tomorrow will more or less signal an end to their title aspirations.

Pocklington will be hoping that last week's inactivity will have enabled front rowers Ben Stephenson and John-Paul Kelly to recover from knocks.

Second-placed West Hartlepool, who are the biggest threat to Pocklington, visit lowly Durham City.

Buoyed by four wins from the last six games, Malton & Norton will be looking to heap more misery on struggling Wheatley Hills.

The South Yorkshire club will be relegated from North One East this season and still have only three points on the board after defeats in 19 of their 20 games this season.

Malton & Norton are currently 10th in the table but only six points off sixth spot.

In Yorkshire One, third placed York will be looking to keep pressure on West Leeds who currently occupy the play-off spot.

York host Bradford Salem and will need to bounce back from last weekend's disappointing performance against leaders Bridlington in the Yorkshire Shield.

Selby's battle to avoid the drop continues with a home game against mid-table Beverley.

York RI visit Hessle for a mid-table tussle in Yorkshire Four.

There is a local derby in the YRFU Central & North Merit League division one where Nestle Rowntrees host York's 3rd XV.

With Moortown 2nd XV having secured top spot, a victory will ensure that Trees finish runners-up, ahead of York who are currently third. Selby's 3rd XV, meanwhile, visit next-to-bottom Morley Saxons 3rd XV.

York RI Ladies are set to be crowned champions of the Women's NC North Two East this weekend.

They enter their penultimate game of the season against Morpeth Ladies with a seven point advantage over second-placed Harrogate and an eight point lead over third placed Bishop Auckland. Victory will guarantee the title - regardless of results elsewhere.
