YORK RI Ladies beat higher level opponents Lutterworth Ladies to book a semi-final date with holders Windsor Dames in the Junior Plate.

RI knew they needed to play their best rugby to win this contest and started strongly from the off.

Hooker Kat Reed stunned the visitors with a powerful run through tackles to score RI’s first try, converted by Kirsty Parr.

RI continued to apply pressure and Charlotte Warriner scored in the corner.

Lutterworth were rattled by the two early tries yet rarely made it past the half way line.

When they did, RI were organised in defence and soon won back possession.

The game was a highly-charged affair with tempers flaring. Fiona Parr was warned by the referee after making contact with a player without the ball.

RI refocused and played simple rugby. The forwards worked hard at the breakdown and the backs moved the ball well.

Rachel Demoraes was denied a try by good Lutterworth tackling and, despite intercepting two passes, Vicki Woodgate was unable to capitalise on her steals.

Kirsty Parr took the ball at pace from scrum half Katie Rushton and scored in the corner and converted.

The first half ended with Kirsty Parr going over for her second try which she also converted.

The second half was a much tighter affair and Lutterworth pushed RI back without threatening to score.

RI kept their composure and kept the ball safe and continued to march up the pitch.

Captain Shannon Little caught the ball on the wing and zig-zagged her way through the defence to score under the post. Kirsty Parr. added the extras/

The result was a reward for RI’s teamwork and they walked away convincing 32-0 winners. They now play Windsor Dames at home in the semi-final.
