YORK Railway Institute RUFC second XV moved into the quarter-finals of the North Yorkshire Trophy following a 36-10 triumph over a determined Malton & Norton third team.
Having fallen behind 10-0 after a strong start by Malton, RI responded when Danny Spencer scored the first of his two tries.
Veteran Howard Reed then celebrated his 57th birthday by crossing the line to give RI a 19-10 advantage at the interval.
Uncompromising tackling by Malton kept RI on the back foot, but further scores by Spencer, Adam Osguthorpe and Rob Joy eased the pressure.
The outcome was then beyond doubt after man-of-the-match Owen Turner grabbed the final try. Chris Morley kicked three conversions.
