NESTLE Rowntree travelled to Selby III with three debutants in the side and three players out of position due to injuries but still returned with a win.
Things started badly as Trees, who were struggling to find their rhythm, went 3-0 down despite dominating possession and position.
A kick down field on 15 minutes saw winger Mike Palfrey score and Jack Daniels convert.
A good move by the Selby backs resulted in a converted try from the right wing after they had just converted a penalty. Selby's forwards then drove over on half time to establish a 20-7 lead.
Trees got back in the game after the break when full back Morgan Caimes raced over and Daniels converted.
With Trees making uncharacteristic errors, Selby scored another penalty but, from the kick off, Trees won the ball and big second row James Hambleton backed up well to score. Daniels again converted.
Selby's forwards scored again to take a 30-21 lead with 20 minutes to play but Trees were now gelling better and scored two unconverted tries through debutant Tom Rakula and Tom Eaton.
Trees again held on to the ball too long and Selby went in front with a penalty before winger Palfrey scored after good play from the backs. Daniels converted to secure a 38-33 victory.
