YORK RI finally got a win in Yorkshire Four - but not necessarily as they would have liked.

Opponents Rotherham Clifton turned up with only 11 men and immediately forfeited the game, giving RI four league points.

RI then made up the numbers for Clifton and played the fixture as a friendly, winning an enjoyable run-out 77-12.

Meanwhile, Nestle Rowntree lost 53-22 to a strong Moortown 2nds team featuring a few former first-teamers.

Moortown's extra strength didn't seem to bother Rowntree initially as they surged forward, with new boy Will Harding flying in at the corner after good work from the forwards, especially Ian Henderson.

But soon Moortown began to pass the ball about and with their speedy backs had Trees in trouble, scoring two converted tries.

Back came Trees and another new player, Kieran Laws, crashed over.

However, the hosts were then helped by some sloppy play from Trees, turning over the ball too easily, and they scored two tries either side of the interval for a 38-10 lead.

Trees never gave up trying to play rugby and Harding scampered in at the corner for his second but Moortown hit back with two quick tries before Laws again crashed over for his brace, Jack Daniels converting. Moortown nevertheless had the last word.
