YORK RUFC coach Lee Denham is demanding an improved performance from his players in tomorrow’s home game with Hullensians.

Although York moved fifth in the Yorkshire One table after beating Selby at Clifton Park last week, Denham was far from happy with the display.

Tomorrow’s opponents Hullensians, who finished fourth last season, are unbeaten and currently sitting third in the table.

“I was pleased with the result against Selby last week but not the performance,” he said. “The players were not happy either. They knew we under-performed and we didn’t keep our game shape.

“ If we can play our game shape, I think we will be there or thereabouts against Hullensians.

“We are at home and we will be going for the win,” he stressed. “But it will be tough, they are a good side – and they have not gone ‘looking’ for players, they have coached their players.”

Denham’s options will again be limited by injuries and absentees.

Chris Peace is still recovering from knee surgery, Tom Newitt and Will Scholey are both unavailable.

Flanker Jon Dawes has been ruled out for the next couple of weeks following hand surgery.

Scrum-half Toby Atkins is working this weekend but hooker Russ Bowers returns to the side and Josh Parker is also available again after work commitments.

Selby, meanwhile, host Yorkshire One leaders Bridlington who have opened the season with a hat-trick of wins.

Pocklington travel to Bradford & Bingley in North One East.

Both sides have lost one of their three games so far, with Pocklington’s free scoring bringing them 15 tries and putting them third in the table thanks to try bonus points.

Bradford & Bingley are currently four points and five places behind them.

Pocklington have made only one previous visit to ‘The Bees’, in January 2015, and lost 21-6 in a mudbath. They were relegated at the end of that season but bounced back at the first attempt, losing just one of 25 games last season.

Pocklington continue to try and balance competition for places with minor injuries that are taking time to clear. They have named an initial 22 man squad which includes three quarter Joe Holbrough and back row Joe Brown who have been sidelined for two weeks with leg injuries.

Malton & Norton, next-to-bottom of the table after three consecutive defeats, are aiming to get off the mark at Dinnington.

Spokesman Bill Laidler described last weekend’s 27-20 defeat as a ‘step in the right direction’ saying: “The pack were tremendous throughout and there was some very good play from the three quarters.”

Ninth-placed York Railway Institute are still seeking their first win of the season after three games in Yorkshire Four. They host Rotherham Clifton who are one position below having lost all of their fixtures.
