YORK RI Ladies made it two wins from two in Women's North East Two thanks to a 46-5 win against Harrogate.

The local derby in hot temperatures was always going to be a challenge and, although York RI started the game strongly, they initially struggled to keep possession.

However, after a couple of phases, RI winger Lucy Peet went over in the corner for the first try of the afternoon.

Following on from their success against West Park Leeds II last week, the RI scrum was again solid and caused Harrogate problems.

Thanks to Kat Reed's hooking, RI turned the ball over at a Harrogate scrum and quick hands allowed Brooke Charlton to go over for a try, converted by Gemma Webster.

RI began to control the game with scrum half Katie Rushton securing the rucks and slowing down the game. Another set of quick hands and great inter-play sent captain Shannon Little through to score in the far corner.

RI lost focus just before the interval and were turned over at a ruck; Harrogate's winger took advantage and scored in the corner, making the halftime score 17-5 in RI's favour.

But RI were soon on top again. Substitute Vicki Woodgate injected pace into the game, picked up a ball at the back of a ruck, and scored a try. RI held most of the possession in the second half and were rarely tested defensively.

Good interplay between the forwards and the backs led to prop Kirsty Parr setting up fly-half Becks Homer for a try. Captain Little followed up with two more tries before Homer scored the final try of the game.

Players and officials are justifiably proud of York RI's progress so far as a team. They are next in action at home to Acklam on October 2.
