YORK RI Ladies kicked-off their league campaign in Women's North East Two with a superb 60-7 victory over West Park Leeds II.

Despite a nervy opening five minutes, RI quickly capitalised on their dominance with newcomer Cal Ibbista tearing up the wing to score the first try.

This gave RI the confidence they needed, and more tries were scored in quick succession with a hat-trick by winger Lucy Peet and full back Rachel Demoraes adding two more tries to the tally.

The York forwards worked hard to settle the game, keeping the ball at the breakdown and, with the experience of Fiona Parr, Kat Reed and Kirsty Parr in the front row, RI were dominant in the scrums, leading to centre Vicki Woodgate scoring a try.

West Park were competitive at the ruck however, which saw RI give away of string of penalties for offside.

Despite being on the back foot and defending on their try line, RI held strong, turned the ball up and centre Brooke Charlton set up new fly half Becks Homer for her first try.

Shortly into the second half and the game was stopped for a long period while injured West Park player Liz was treated for a broken ankle.

This seemed to unsettle RI as they gave away more penalties at the breakdown and captain Shannon Little was carded for a team offence.

West Park, having the extra player, spotted the overlap and scored their only try of the game.

Demoraes stayed strong at full back to prevent any more tries being conceded, and Reed's continuous tackling and pressure at the breakdown caused West Park to lose territory throughout the game.

Peet then stormed down the wing once more for her fourth try.

Having only just being subbed on, new player Bryony Holleran scored her first try for the team from great inter play in the back line to complete the scoring.
