POCKLINGTON started and finished strongly at Driffield - but the middle hour let them down as they lost their North One East derby 41-29.

A ten-try game looks like an exciting encounter, but Pocklington's players and supporters ended disappointed with their inability to hold the home backs when they got the ball wide - three of Driffield's tries coming from 70-yard breakaways.

Pock were straight on the attack from the kick off and opened the scoring with a well-worked try - a lineout peel ending with full-back Jack Fletcher linking up to cross in the corner.

But the visitors were only able to turn their pressure into points once more in the first hour, when centre Billy Hardy crossed after a forwards and backs combination from a lineout, Nathan Saltmer converting. During the same period Driffield took their chances with aplomb to score five times out wide and add three conversions and a penalty for a 34-12 lead

Pocklington then somehow dragged themselves back into the contest with front-five forwards Chris Morton and Archie Fothergill both plunging in for tries.

Then when emergency centre Jack Holbrough spun over for Pock's fourth touchdown, converted by Saltmer, the margin was down to five points with three minutes still to go.

But heady thoughts of getting on terms were extinguished as Pock overplayed their hand, trying to run the ball from behind their own line only to be dispossessed and gift Driffield their sixth try to seal the game, the conversion added on the final whistle.
