MALTON & Norton signed off their Yorkshire League One campaign with a 43-22 victory over much-improved Hullensians.

However, Middlesbrough's 31-0 home win over Hartlepool Rovers in Durham & Northumberland One means that Saturday's play-off match between the respective runners-up will be at Acklam Park.

With next weekend's game in mind, Malton took the opportunity to rest players who were carrying minor injuries but their replacements were not lacking.

The visitors were soon on the board with an unconverted try but the home side responded in style two minutes later, making good ground into Hullensians' half before a series of pick and drives put them within sight of the line, prop Ben Boothman scoring, after a knock-on that wasn't seen by the referee, and Ian Cooke converting.

Midway through the first half, Malton scored three tries in five minutes to seal the points.

Full back Sizwe Zondo made the break to put centre Rhys Bowdich over in the corner, Cooke converting, scrum half Paul Angus' break then helping Zondo to score.

The best try, however, was the third of the batch, the ball passing through several pairs of hands before fly half Nick Daley was about to cross in the corner only to be tackled high, the referee awarding a penalty try that Cooke improved.

Hullensians, down a man after the penalty-try yellow card and trailing 26-5, were given hope with another unconverted try, but Ali Coe responded with a try that Cooke converted, and flanker Tom Lowry's injury-time try made the interval score 38-10.

The visitors bagged two of the three second-half tries, partly because Malton withdrew some first-choice regulars and played the last 15 minutes with 14 men, but Malton's stand-out player Zondo fittingly bagged his second.

Selby saved their Yorkshire Division One skins with a 33-31 home victory over Scarborough that was only sealed by fly half Scott Hunt's penalty in the fourth minute of time added-on.

Their biggest crowd of the season watched the drama unfold as much-changed Selby trailed three times but managed tries by prop Duncan Hardy, his tenth of the season, lock Stephen Clark, prop Millar McCoy and winger Ashton Dallimore. Hunt added two conversions and two penalties.
