SELBY'S future in Yorkshire One will be decided tomorrow when they play their final game of the season at home to Scarborough.

The Sandhill Lane side are two points ahead of Old Crossleyans, who are currently in the second relegation slot.

Selby's challenge will be a big one and there will be anxious waits to hear how Crossleyans are faring in a Halifax derby at home to Old Brodleians, who are sixth.

It couldn't be tighter for Selby, who gained what could prove to be an invaluable bonus point last weekend in a 25-18 reversal at Yarnbury.

Coach Richard Nicholson will be in charge of his final first-XV match tomorrow after his recent decision to step down from the role after five years.

He will continue to work with the club bringing on talented youngsters and promoting sport in the area. The search continues to find his successor, a task that will be made much easier if Selby can retain their position in the higher division.

They only have to look at the example of their rivals Old Crossleyans, who will be aiming to avoid their second successive demotion down the rugby union pyramid.

Looking to the future, Selby host their 40th annual festival of youth rugby on Sunday with matches from minis to under-12s.

At the other end of the table, Malton & Norton were confirmed in second place last weekend and will use tomorrow's final league match of the season at home to fourth-placed Hullensians as a springboard to the promotion play-off match.

Everything at the top of Yorkshire One was settled last weekend when Malton went down 23-8 at Bradford and Bingley. The win confirmed the hosts as champions and also acted as the Yorkshire Shield quarter-final.

The defeat also had other consequences for Malton. They will be without top scorer, Zweli Sodladla, who was sent off in the dying minutes of the match. Sodladla has contributed 205 points this season and will be big miss, while tomorrow's contest will give coach Chris Creber the chance to run the rule over his options.

Middlesbrough, who are set to finish second in the Durham & Northumberland division, will be Malton's opponents in the play-off clash.

However, the venue for that crucial encounter will be decided by the outcome of tomorrow's matches – the team with the most league points hosts the sudden death showdown.

Currently, Malton are a point behind their North East rivals, who travel to tenth-placed Gosforth.

York, who are safely in seventh place, will be setting down a marker for next season as they complete their fixtures at North Ribblesdale.

A win would see them challenge Old Brodleians for sixth and could even leave them breathing down the necks of Scarborough in fifth.

Pocklington head to Newcastle for their final North One East league game of their 2015-16 league campaign at Northern FC.

Although Pocklington will finish comfortably in mid-table, Northern sit in the third relegation spot and need points from their two remaining games to leapfrog Wheatley Hills and avoid the drop.

There is still action, however, at Percy Road before the season ends. Next Friday, April 29 is the club's annual dinner and awards night in the clubhouse, with tickets from Dave Birch or team captains.

This is followed by the annual Pilgrims v Coaches XV game on Saturday, then the 1st XV v Presidents XV on the Sunday.
