INSPIRED by Tasmin Putt's 'foursome' display, Women's North East Two title hopefuls York RI RUFC Ladies completed a superb campaign with a 51-0 win against Harrogate.

The result left them top of the table although Barnsley, who have two games left, can leapfrog them.

Tighthead prop Kirsty Parr scored within a minute to set the tone for RI before Shannon Little broke through to set up Putt for the second.

Harrogate made ground into RI's half but a knock-on gave Putt the impetus for her second try, which Freya Wilde converted.

From the restart, Charlie Freeman made ground and the forwards recycled the ball via Vicki Woodgate to Gemma Webster for another try. Number eight Lizzie Prance set up full-back Rachel Demoraes to score and a conversion by Wilde gave RI a 29-0 half-time lead.

Harrogate made a good start to the second period, but RI rallied as Freeman turned the ball over at a ruck, Parr finding Putt for her hat-trick. Centre Gemma Webster soon helped Putt to a fourth.

The scoring continued as Peet chased a kick for her first try before Webster and Putt combined for the final try, converted by Wilde.

Little and Putt were the players of the match, Freeman the top forward.

* NESTLE Rowntree RUFC benefited from a decent work-out as they travelled to Leeds Corinthian 2nds for a friendly fixture as a warm-up to Saturday's North Yorkshire Trophy semi-finals against Wharfedale 3rds.

Trees, fifth in the Central North District League, had the better of the game but only had a single try to show for their efforts in a 22-5 defeat.

Stray passes at critical times proved costly but never seemed to dampen their endeavour.

The hosts took an early 8-0 lead before Dan Crawforth crossed to narrow the gap. However, another home break gave the hosts a 15-5 lead after 20 minutes.

Both defences were on top – especially a stubborn Leeds line-up – and the hosts made the game safe at the death with a converted try.
