Yorkshire Division One: Selby 26 Old Brodleians 40

IN FRONT of their biggest crowd of the season, swelled by a touring party from Groningen in the Netherlands and many neutrals, much-changed Selby picked up a four-try bonus point which could prove vital to their hopes of staying up.

The hosts gave debuts in this re-arranged match to 17-year-olds Sam Pocklington at full back and Will Edwards at fly half, who both flourished.

Selby, playing to the Leeds Road end, had first use of the wind and went ahead after seven minutes when prop Greg Nagle was driven over.

However the lead only lasted six minutes, prop Josh Cricknay touching down and centre Phil Town converting.

Selby, who had much of the possession and territory, re-took the lead after 18 minutes, with Brendan Lenaghan feeding Nagle, who put scrum half Andrew McLoughlin in for a try under the posts, Edwards adding the extras for 12-7.

Full back Dominic Georgiou then exploited a big hole in Selby's defence to score following a scrum 20 metres out, Town making it 14-12 with the kick, but Selby's response was a try for Pocklington after a line break by Alex Hare 40 metres out, Edwards converting.

However, the lead changed hands for a fifth time when, after good work by forwards and backs, Cricknay crossed again, Town's goal giving the Halifax visitors the advantage at 21-19.

Selby, who are only one place above a demotion berth, only managed one try in the second half, but Matthew Leetham's 45th-minute effort gave them a bonus point, Edwards again tagging on the extras.

Brods, who rose from sixth to fifth, managed tries by Luke Scrimshaw, Matt Hoyle and Harley Morris, Town and Hoyle each adding a conversion.

* York RI defeated Argeles Sur Mer, a touring team from the south of France that fielded their under-21 side, 35-28.

RI, who fielded Frenchman in Yohan Barthelemy, Francky Rossi and Alexis Evrat, were 21-7 down, with only Matty Weingarth having crossed.

However, buoyed by Danny Spencer's sublime try, RI hit back to triumph with two tries by their man of the match, young Chris Moorcroft.

RI travel to Argeles next month in what will hopefully continue a long and fruitful relationship.
