North One East: Guisborough 15 Pocklington 21

SIXTH-placed Pocklington made it four wins on the bounce with a hard-fought win on their first league visit to tenth-placed Guisborough.

The visitors heavily dominated possession in the first half and led 13-7 at the break, thanks to two tries from centre Peter Massie and a penalty from full back Dan Elliott.

The hosts responded in determined fashion in the second half to peg Pock back, and took the lead for the first time as the clock entered the final quarter.

Their left winger went over in the corner after patient build up had created an overlap, and a penalty kick for offside made it 15-13.

However, Pock responded almost immediately through Elliott's boot when the hosts were penalised for an infringement at the ruck.

Leading 16-15, the visitors regrouped and steadily progressed down the field to dominate both possession and field position in the last ten minutes, and scored when flanker Jack Holborough drove over close to a melee of bodies to seal the points.

In Yorkshire Division One, York slipped to eighth after a 31-10 defeat at third-placed Bridlington, while fifth-placed Scarborough fought hard before succumbing 25-18 at home to leaders Bradford & Bingley, who reckoned it was their best away display of the season.

York RI triumphed 17-13 at Hemsworth in Yorkshire Division Four to climb above their hosts.

Lacking their regular half-backs due to injury, RI gave the nod to Harry Evans, one of their up and coming colts, at scrum half, and he gave an assured performance in his first senior game.

Playing down the slope in the first half, the visitors went behind to an early penalty, but responded well for skipper Frazer Land to score a try.

Both sides came close to other first-half tries but were adjudged to have been held up over the line.

Hemsworth, with their superior backs, scored two unconverted tries in the second half to lead 13-5, but RI, whose pack had always had the upper hand on their heavier rivals, came more into the game and drove upfield for Yohan Barthemley to dive over for an unconverted try.

In the last two minutes, RI disrupted a Hemsworth scrum close to their line with a tremendous push, won the ball and Ben Hartop scored the winning try, converted from wide out by Stewart Watson.
