POCKLINGTON shut out Wheatley Hills 23-0 in North One East.

The game at Percy Road had been in doubt but a couple of hours of sunshine eased the frosts and allowed the contest to go ahead.

Pock dominated territorially in the first half but had to settle for an 8-0 interval lead thanks to a Dan Elvidge try and Nathan Saltmer penalty.

They remained camped in the Hills half in the second period and pulled away with another Saltmer penalty then a penalty try when a scrum collapsed as Pock went for a pushover, Matt Procter converting.

Pocklington sealed a comfortable victory inside the final five minutes when returning skipper Ben Rees blasted 40 yards down the touchline to dive over in the corner.

The result sees Pock in fifth place in the table.

York RI returned to winning ways with a hard fought 11-7 victory away at Mosborough in Yorkshire Four.

Injuries forced RI to field a make shift back-line which managed to blunt the home side's attacks but lacked any real penetration.

Up front, a solid scrum allowed RI's forwards to dominate but, despite strong running from Ewan Metcalfe and Ben Hartop, all they had to show for their early pressure was a cleverly taken drop goal by winger Tom Greaves.

RI's failure to convert pressure into points was looking costly when, just before half-time, a failed clearance kick bounced nicely for the Mosborough right wing to collect and sprint 70 metres to score under the posts. The conversion left RI trailing 7-3 at the break.

The second half was all RI but the home side clung to the lead with some excellent defence.

The main positive RI can take from a scrappy game is their line-out performance, led by man-of-the match Curtis Allnutt, and it was from one of many well worked moves that captain Frazer Land drove over the try line to restore the visitors' lead.

Baptiste Brui missed the conversion but quickly added a penalty to put RI 11-7 up. An irresponsible yellow card put more pressure on RI but tremendous tackling led by Rob Cuthbertson meant they took the hard earned points.

Malton & Norton's Yorkshire One trip to North Ribblesdale was postponed because of a frozen pitch.
