YORK RI were beaten 22-11 by Halifax Vandals in Yorkshire Four at New Lane.

With three French players in the RI ranks, both clubs' first and second teams linked arms on their pitches to show solidarity and respect following the terrorist attacks in Paris.

Vandals kicked the game off, on a greasy pitch and RI took the lead with an early Baptiste Briu penalty to lead 3-0.

It was an evenly matched half until the Vandals outside centre collected a loose ball at speed and poor tackling allowed him to race 60 metres to score a converted try.

Just before half time, Briu kicked his second penalty - matching an earlier Vandals strike - and RI trailed 10-6 at the break.

The former South Africa rugby league international Jamie Bloem came on at half-time for Halifax and slotted in at scrum-half. His presence brought a try following a well-judged chip and Vandals led 22-6.

RI got their own try with the last play of the game as they crossed the line from a short lineout throw. Inter-passing on the touchline saw Aussie import Curtis Allnutt cross but Briu put the conversion wide.

Selby never gave up but found Heath too tough a nut to crack as they lost 25-7 in Yorkshire One.

Alistair Gordon gave the home side the lead in the tenth minute and, on 20 minutes, Ian Downsborough profited following a series of passes from a lineout as Heath went 10-0 ahead.

It was 17-0 six minutes before the break as Josh White crossed following slick handling, after a five metre scrum, from Jack Crabtree and Ezra Hinchcliffe.

The lead was extended three minutes after the restart through a Hinchcliffe penalty and, in the 65th minute, Callum Harriett-Brown chased a kick and touched down for the bonus point try.

Selby continued to work hard and they ensured Heath would not keep a clean sheet when, as time ran out, prop Greg Nadle scored a try which was converted by full-back Ben Lunt.
