MALTON & Norton RUFC are confident of bouncing back to victory after a weekend off as they host West Park Leeds in Yorkshire One - boosted by a key trio's return.

The Ryedale side's good run in the league ended with a 25-23 defeat at Heath last time out, before rugby union took a break for last weekend's World Cup final.

It saw them slip to third in the standings but tomorrow they host a side rooted to the foot of the table with eight defeats from eight outings, and with 254 points being shipped in that time. Kick off times now revert to 2.15pm for the winter months.

Asked if it was a good fixture in which to ease back into action, Malton spokesman Bill Laidler said: "Without a doubt.

"We played West Park in the Yorkshire Shield back in August at their place and it was a 35-0 win.

"Things might have changed since then there but they haven't got a good record up to now. It's definitely a game in which we will be looking to cash in."

Skipper Sam Triffitt remains sidelined for another month after a cartilage operation but Nick Daley and, hopefully, Ali Coe are back from injury and Zweli Sodladla returns from his one-match ban.

Added Laidler: "We will be big favourites. We don't know if they will be better than last time but they weren't very strong when we last played them. We'll see what it brings."

Second-bottom Selby, who have conceded 286 points in their eight games and have the worst points-for record in the league, having scored only 60 points, go to mid-table Old Brodleians.

York, looking to improve a record of won four lost four, face a North Yorkshire derby against seasiders Scarborough at Clifton Park.

They will need to improve on their last outing, having lost to Yarnbury, one of only two sides with a worse points-against record than Selby.

Mid-table Pocklington, meanwhile, return to North One East action with a home game against Alnwick.

Despite the 130 miles between Pocklington and Alnwick, the two sides know each other well.

They used to play a pre-season friendly against each other before they became league rivals when Alnwick were promoted as Northumberland champions in 2013.

Since then the two have had some excellent tussles, with Pocklington winning 26-10 at Feathers Field last season, then Alnwick gaining 24-13 revenge in the return.

In Yorkshire Four, third-placed York RI's promotion credentials will be tested as they head to leaders Hessle.
