YORK RI RUFC got over a slow start to see off Hemsworth 28-11 in Yorkshire Four.

The visitors led with two penalties but, just before half-time, man of the match Darren Lonsdale made a great break to score in the corner. Two Rossa Keating penalties made it 11-6 at the break.

Andy McCarthy then crashed over the line as the New Lane outfit made it 16-6 and they started to get on top of the visitors' large forwards.

Rob Cuthbertson raced 50 metres to outstrip the Hemsworth defence with a well taken try and Brendan Aherne added another score, converted by Keating, as RI grabbed the bonus point.

They switched off to allow Hemsworth a consolation in the corner.

York's hopes of getting back on track were dashed as a much-changed side lost 39-26 at Yarnbury in Yorkshire One.

Despite having to make a number of positional and personnel changes, the Clifton Parkers got off to a good start and, after 23 minutes, found themselves 14-0 up.

Tries from Will Atkin and George Davies both came from Yarnbury attacks which broke down and passes were intercepted - the second of which by skipper Chris Fox - and each score was converted by Jon Dawes.

York went on the offensive again but, deep in the Yarnbury half, a badly judged kick was gathered by the defence and, several passes later, winger Russell Gomersall received the ball 45 yards out and raced into the corner.

Soon after, York lost centre Adam Spick to a yellow card and the resulting penalty saw play come to the 22. From the subsequent lineout and driving maul, Yarnbury scored out wide and the score was 14-12.

And the home side led 19-14 at half time after poor tackling saw Yarnbury run 75 yards to score.

The Clifton Parkers were hoping to utilise the breeze in the second half but it was ten minutes before they touched the ball. Yarnbury gathered from the kick off and more woeful tackling put Eddie Child away to run 50 yards almost unopposed.

York kicked off again and four or five missed tackles and 60 yards brought Yarnbury another try, while a penalty from Daniel Pound saw them move 34-14 ahead.

It wasn't until the 16th minute that York were able to gain a foothold in the home 22 and a scrum ten yards out had Yarnbury going backwards. It collapsed and the referee awarded a penalty try.

Dawes' conversion closed the gap to 34-21 and, four minutes from time, it became 34-26 as - awarded a scrum close to the home side line - number eight Marcus Britland drove over.

But the visitors' hopes of snatching victory were soon dashed as, from the kick-off, Yarnbury recovered the ball and, with the help of more missed tackles, crossed again.
