SELBY RUFC and York will each be seeking a morale boosting performance when they play out a derby day clash in Yorkshire One.

Both sides came off disappointing defeats a week ago - Selby were crushed 56-0 by Hullensians while York lost 27-15 to Bradford Salem in a blow to their early season good form.

Now the pair meet at Sandhill Lane both bidding to get back on track.

Selby coach Richard Nicholson, hoping his young squad can pick up their first win of the campaign, said: "The players are always motivated against York as our local rivals. It's the official opening of our new clubhouse and, hopefully, that can give the lads a lift and we will be okay. There will be a big crowd. York always bring a good following and it promises to be a really good day.

"We were well beaten last week and there were no excuses. We have to regroup and be positive."

James Blaymire hurt his ankle in the Hullensians game and won't feature for Selby.

York chief Lee Denham wants his side to show much more aggression in a game he has described as "huge."

He explained: "We have got to be at our best in every game in Yorkshire One. It's a really hard league. It's a local derby and our guys will hopefully be raring to go. It is huge for us to keep on track with the development of the team.

"I am not saying we have got to win but that's what I want to come away with. Last week we didn't defend well - we were falling off tackles - and we can't let that happen again."

Denham is likely to be without Sam Laing in the second row and Sam Arkle but has brought in Josh Parker, a back row forward who has joined from Driffield.

Malton & Norton have yet to produce their best, reckon club chiefs, as North Ribblesdale come to visit in Yorkshire One.

After losing to York, The Gannock club bounced back with a bonus point 32-19 victory at Old Crossleyans to move them into third in the early standings.

Team manager Bill Laidler said Malton had to fight "every inch of the way" to see off their Halifax-based hosts but he is convinced there is more to come tomorrow.

"We are currently in third place in the league and have still to produce our best," he said. "The whole side is gelling and better performances are around the corner."

Much will depend on the performances of Josh Heggie, man of the match in the Crossleyans win, and Zweli Sodladla, who has proved hugely reliable with the boot as well as directing Malton's play from the back of the scrum.

Pocklington face Doncaster opposition for the second week running when they travel to Wheatley Hills in North One East.

Colts' backs Matt Procter and Nathan Saltmer keep their places after impressing on their debut last Saturday. Josh Britland is on holiday but Charlie Allen and Pete Massie return after being unavailable. In the forwards Matt Greenwood comes in for John-Paul Kelly.

York RI, not in action a week ago, return to Yorkshire Four duties when they entertain Mosborough at New Lane.

RI were beaten 31-7 at Skipton on their last outing and will be looking to improve on their early eighth place showing in the table.
