POCKLINGTON RUFC made it six wins from their last seven North One East games with a 35-21 home victory over Percy Park.

Though Pocklington ended with a five touchdowns, a try bonus and a 14-point winning margin, the game was in the balance throughout until the hosts crossed twice in injury time to pull clear.

In addition to their strong finish, Pocklington also made a notable opening. They forced a five-metre scrum direct from the kick-off and shipped the ball wide for right wing Dan Pickard to get the first score inside two minutes.

Full-back Jack Fletcher converted from the touchline, then added a penalty from the next attack for Pocklington to be ten points up in as many minutes.

They looked to be running away with it, but then missed opportunities to extend the lead and saw Percy Park claw their way back into contention at 10-10 at half-time before edging 18-10 ahead early in the second period.

That gave Pock a wake-up call and centre Billy Hardy had a touchdown disallowed.

They held the position and Joe Holborough, dragged out of retirement due to a back shortage and on as a replacement, stretched over to score with his first touch.

Hardy converted to close the gap to a single point.

Pock were now in the ascendancy and skipper and flanker Jack Holborough carved through from 35 metres to regain the lead.

Percy Park pulled three points back with a penalty to make it 22-21, and Pock went close in both corners before Hardy kicked a penalty to edge his side clear again.

It was still in the melting pot as the game went into stoppage time.

Second row Tom Peters got the ball on halfway and put in an optimistic kick that bounced perfectly into the arms of Jack Holborough, who powered clear for his second score.

They the got a penalty with seconds left and booted to the corner for a lineout catch and drive only to kick the ball dead. One last play saw Percy Park penalised for feeding at the scrum on the 22, and Yorkshire Under-20 scrum-half James Thompson took a quick tap and raced away for Pock’s fifth try.
