MALTON & Norton RUFC were forced to dig deep as they clinched their 14th successive victory in Yorkshire One with a last minute penalty.

Lowly Old Brodleians made the hosts fight all the way for an 18-15 triumph at The Gannock, but the Malton forwards ensured their side came out on top.

Skipper Sam Triffitt opened the scoring for Malt on ten minutes, touching down under the posts for Zweli Sodladla to convert.

Midway through the half, a series of errors from both sides ended with Brods scoring an unconverted try and the visitors added a penalty five minutes later.

The Malton reply was instant as they regained possession from the restart and worked an opening for Sodladla to race through a gap for a well deserved try.

A series of catch and drive moves led to a second Brods try and the visitors led 15-12 at the break.

Malton began the second period well and, when Brods were penalised at a ruck in the opening minute, Sodladla levelled the scores.

The remainder of the half was a stalemate with defences on top until the final minute when Brods were penalised at a ruck three metres out and Sodladla landed the winning penalty.
