YORK RUFC need to hit the road to success in Yorkshire One.

That is the challenge laid down by Clifton Park coach Sean Bass ahead of tomorrow's trip to Middlesbrough.

A win could take sixth-placed York above their fourth-placed hosts, but Bass is well aware that his side's best form has been shown at home.

"We have given the top two - Doncaster and Malton - a tough game at home and we've got to take that form on the road," he said.

"We have gone away and got beaten at Old Brodleians, who are near the bottom, and at Wath.

"We've got to perform away from home if we are going to be pushing for the top four places."

He added: "We would like to get to Christmas without being beaten, but that is a big ask in this division."

Andy Kay is back in the York squad after overcoming niggling injuries and proving his fitness in the second team.

Said Bass: "He has excelled in the twos and has been a fantastic player for us for a long time. He's a cracking servant and it's good to have him back."

Consistency in selection is playing a part in Malton & Norton's eight-game winning streak in Yorkshire One, according to club spokesman Bill Laidler.

The Ryedale outfit are the only side keeping pace with runaway leaders Doncaster Phoenix and they welcome Bridlington to The Gannock tomorrow.

Laidler said: "We have got some consistency in the team. We've had pretty much the same side for the last six or seven weeks, which has been good for us.

"It is looking good at the moment and it is just a case of more of the same for our lads."

Malton's lightweight pack was tested in the derby triumph at York, but their greater mobility enabled them to eventually get on top.

"We came under the cosh," said Laidler. "We are smaller than any of the sides we have come up against so far, but our mobility has helped. We get around the field and do all the work."

Sizwe Zondo returns to the squad having missed the Clifton Park clash.

Selby have two away games before Yorkshire One takes a two-week break over Christmas and New Year.

They travel to Pontefract tomorrow before heading to Heath hoping to add to their solitary victory on the road at North Ribblesdale a fortnight ago.

Pocklington, seventh in North One East, journey over the Pennines to meet fifth-placed Rochdale tomorrow.

Fireman Tim Nixon, who was working last week, is available to challenge for a wing spot.

Pock have named a combined squad for the first team and the Panthers, who host Hull Ionians.

Second-placed York RI will be aiming to bounce back from their first defeat in seven Yorkshire Four games when they host Mosborough tomorrow.
