POCKLINGTON RUFC endured another frustrating day in North One East as they lost 15-5 at home to West Hartlepool.

The home dominated territorially without ever looking like turning it into points, while the visitors made more of their limited opportunities to deservedly win.

The difference on the day was summed up in the first quarter of an hour.

Pocklington camped in Hartlepool's half but missed two straightforward penalty kicks inside the visitors' 22, then saw Hartlepool snatch the lead with a penalty success from the halfway line.

It got worse for Pocklington as they failed to find the tempo to open up a Hartlepool defence with a man in the sin bin and Hartlepool made it 8-0 at the interval with a try from a left wing breakaway.

It was a similar story in the second half as Pocklington produced plenty of good approach play only to lose their way and make mistakes when they got in sight of the line.

After Pocklington had dropped the ball on the attack, Hartlepool hacked it to the other end then held the position to weave through in midfield for a converted try to make the game safe.

Returning wing Billy Hardy and Jack Fletcher, switched from scrum-half to full-back in the second half, tried hard to inject some energy into listless Pocklington but their only score came from the last move of the day.

Pock ran the ball from inside their own half as debutant wing Jack Walters showed good pace and strength down the right flank before offloading to Fletcher who tip-toed at speed along the touchline to score.
