A LEADING sports psychologist, who worked with the New Zealand All Blacks as they surged to rugby union World Cup glory in 2011, will be giving a talk about his methods at York St John University.

Professor Ken Hodge will address an audience at the Fountains Lecture Theatre tomorrow under the title ‘Motivational Climate For Elite Performance: Lessons from the World Cup winning 2011 All Blacks Rugby Team’.

Prof Hodge has plenty of experience working with elite New Zealand athletes, having been part of the 1990, 94 and 98 Commonwealth Games, 1992 Olympic Games and the 2006 Winter Olympics.

On the board of directors for the Highlander’s Super 15 rugby franchise, Prof Hodge is also a professor in sport and exercise psychology at the University of Otago’s School of Physical Education.

Prof Hodge focuses primarily on the psycho-social effects of participation in sport and, in particular, investigating issues such as athlete burnout, lifeskill development and the effectiveness of sport psychology consultants.

Tickets are free for the event, which gets under way at 6.30pm, but should be booked through the YSJU website at http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/go-york-lecture-dr-ken-hodge-tickets-12847801119
