YORK RUFC stayed in the promotion chasing pack in Yorkshire One with a battling 25-19 victory over Heath.

The home side played with the wind in the first and built up an 11-0 lead by the break, but they were forced to withstand a Heath comeback in the second period.

George Davies slotted over a penalty from 30 metres on five minutes and Heath were unable to respond with points despite camping on the York line.

On 13 minutes, Davies pushed a penalty attempt wide of the posts, but he made no mistake with a 35-metre kick on 21 minutes to give his side a 6-0 lead.

From the kick off, York again forced play into the visitors' half and Heath were penalised but Davies sent his kick just wide from 35 metres.

York maintained territorial advantage and from a slick passing move Hugh Nicholson crossed wide out for an unconverted try.

Heath began the second half well and got on the scoresheet with an unconverted try on 46 minutes.

Five minutes later, Heath received the first of two yellow cards for persistent offending, but when York failed to find touch with the penalty, slick handling resulted in a converted try and a 12-11 lead for the visitors.

York took play back into the Heath half and a penalty by Davies gave York the lead again at 14-12.

Pressure on the Heath line resulted in Toby Atkin darting over wide out on 73 minutes and Davies added an excellent conversion into the wind.

Atkin, York’s man of the match, then slipped a pass to David Bates, who broke infield to feed Nicholson for his second try on 78 minutes.

wide.

The game appeared out of sight at 25-12, but Heath still had time to score a converted try.

Selby hit back from behind to beat Hullensians 24-15 in Yorkshire One.

A minute's silence in memory of past president Tony Redfearn, who died last week, Selby started strongly but found themelves 7-0 down after a catch and drive try by Ken Bates converted by Guy Martinson.

Bates was then yellow carded and Selby took advantage, winning a lineout and spreading the ball wide for the young winger Sam Harrison to speed down the left, chip through the defence, regather and cross the line.

Fly-half Cody Whittaker missed the conversion and Hullensians increased their lead through Martinson's boot when Selby were penalised for not rolling away after a tackle.

Another catch and drive by the Hullensians forwards gave Bates his second try and the visitors had a handy 15-5 advantage.

Selby reduced their arrears when Whittaker made a brilliant break and offloaded to hooker Duncan Hardy, with flanker James Blaymire putting centre Peter Turner over for a try near the posts. Whittaker converted to make it 15-12 at half-time.

A break by Hardy in the first minute of the second half earned Selby a penalty in front of the posts and Whittaker levelled with the kick.

Josh Cruise came on as a substitute and was just short with a 50-metre penalty attempt before Whittaker put Selby in front for the first time with a successful penalty.

Another Whittaker penalty gave Selby a 21-15 lead and Cruise extended that to 24-15 with a long-range effort.

Hullensians came more into the game but, despite a yellow card for Whittaker and a red for replacement prop Ben Booth, Selby managed to hang on.

Malton & Norton remain second in the Yorkshire One table after a 30-18 win at Scarborough.

Scarborough took the lead with a penalty, but Malton hit back with two tries in two minutes from fly-half Nick Daley and flanker Ali Coe. Full-back Zwelakhe Sodladla converted the second score.

The home side narrowed the gap with a penalty, but Sodladla made it 15-6 with a penalty before half-time.

Sodladla's boot added another three points after the break and winger Sizwe Zondo then showed great strength to force his way over for the third try which Sodladla converted.

Scarborough responded with a try but were then hit with a yellow card and Malton took advantage with winger Ian Cooke chipping over the defence for the bonus-point try. The conversion made it 30-13.

A Malton player was yellow carded and a series of tap penalties resulted in a try for the home side.
