IN-FORM York RI RUFC maintained their promotion push with a 26-10 victory at Ossett in Yorkshire Four.

RI, chasing their sixth victory in seven starts, fell behind to an early penalty, but they settled to provide field position for Frankie Rossi to cross in the 15th minute for a try converted from wide out by Baptiste Briu.

Centre Tim Lewis cut though to score a superb try ten minutes later, again converted by Briu from near the touchline.

RI were now on top and, on 32 minutes, a 20-metre pass found Tom Greaves clear on the wing and he cut inside to score under the posts, a try easily converted by Briu.

With the visitors leading 21-3 at the break, Ossett brought on fresh forwards to gain dominance in the tight which led to a penalty try midway through the second half.

It was left to RI’s superior backs to make the game safe when crisp passing, especially by Stew Watson, ended with a late unconverted try by Greaves.

The pick of the forwards were Ewan Metcalfe and Frazer Land, who performed heroically behind retreating scrums, especially in the second half.
