IT was a bad day for Pocklington at Newcastle in North One East as they looked in complete control only to let Northern off the hook and slide to a 19-14 defeat.

Pock dominated from the start and their pack power saw front row forwards Ben Stephenson and Mat Webber drive over for tries, both converted by Jack Fletcher, to put them 14 points up inside 15 minutes.

But things went downhill as missed tackles and dropped passes let Northern back in, the home side grabbing an opportunist score to close the gap.

Pock regained the initiative at the end of the first half and young prop Jack Helme was almost over but was penalised for a double movement.

Northern had the better of the third quarter and two tries in quick succession edged them ahead.

It was all Pocklington again in the closing stages only for errors and missed opportunities once more prevent them turning pressure into points.
