YORK RUFC’s bid to build on last week’s Yorkshire One win over North Ribblesdale foundered when they lost 22-8 at Old Brodleians.

The only real highlight of the opening 20 minutes was some good tackling and carrying by the York back row.

But the hosts bagged an unconverted try to take the lead.

Soon after the advantage was 12-0, though York’s forwards.

A clever kick by Josh Britland pushed the ball deep into the Old Brods half and a solid chase resulted in a penalty. The resulting line-out was won and driven over, with a try for Darren Rutherford.

But just before half-time Old Brods bagged another converted try to lead 19-5.

Dawes kicked a penalty to trim the arrears to 19-8 at the interval.

The second half was a relatively lack-lustre affair.

Although York dominated territory, turn overs and mis-judgements ensured that York did not close the gap.

Pocklington had little trouble seeing off hosts Horden for a 48-7 North-east one triumph.

Skipper and scrum-half Ben Rees started the rout with centre Billy Hardy converting.

Mat Webber drove over for another try followed by three tries in the last 12 minutes of the first half through Rees, Tim Nixon and Matt Davies. Hardy kicked two conversions for a 31-7 interval lead.

Pock’s pressure final three tries springing from 80-yard attacks. Nixon, Charlie Allen and Pete Massie were the beneficaries, Hardy converting the final one.

Malton’s impressive start to the Yorkshire One campaign continued with a 26-10 win over visitors Hullensians.

The hosts were rocked by a penalty. But once Sean Emms crossed, converted by Zweli Sodladla, victory was safe.

Zumsi Dyantjies was next, Sodladla again obliging with the boot before he dived over spectacularly and added the conversion. Second-rower Jamie Rounthwaite added the last for a bonus point.

Selby RUFC triumphed 20-17 over Heath. Selby went 17-3 up with tries from winger Ben Lunt and Peter Turner, Josh Cruise kicking both as well as a penalty.

First-half supremacy underpinned York RI’s 38-12 win over Sheffield Oaks in division four. They led 35-5 at the break to tries from Frazer Land (2) Dan Coates, Rob Cuthbertson and Tim Lewis. All were converted by Baptiste Brui, who added a lone penalty in the second half.
