NESTLE Rowntree RUFC celebrated promotion from the Central/North District Merit League with an annual dinner and awards night, writes Josh Luckhurst.

Rowntrees finished behind Harrogate’s Development XV to seal the second promotion spot after winning 15 of their 20 league matches during the season, winning eight of their ten home matches throughout the campaign.

Club treasurer and coach Mike Chapman was awarded the Lloyd Owen Memorial Clubman of the Year Trophy.

Greg Neill was voted the Peter Cregan Player of the Year after a great first season, while Alex Ulyet received the trophy for runner-up, setting a new try-scoring record with 21 tries from only 14 appearances.

The Most Improved Award went to Phil Thompson after a successful conversion from full-back to prop, while captain Dave Harder received the Simon Whitter Memorial Trophy for Training for the second season running.

Young Player of the Year Dan Crump overcame a neck injury to follow in the footsteps of his father, Steve, who won the award in 1978.

A raffle raised £200 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, who assisted with Crump’s injury.
